About Wayne Charles Agness
Wayne Charles Agness, 70, was born in Akron, Ohio on March 18, 1952 to Charles and Eileen Agness. He passed away on October 16, 2022, based on injuries sustained during one of his favorite passions, riding his road bike.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cindy, his son Kevin (Chiara), sister, Joyce, two granddaughters Gabriella and Sofia, niece Jennifer (John) and grandnephew Jayden. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his nephew Charlie.
He served in the U.S. Army (Infantry/Airborne) for 25 years where he served around the world and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Wayne was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, coach, mentor, and leader. His passions included cycling; playing and coaching basketball; salmon fishing; national and international scouting events; and seeing the world with his international travel buddy Cindy.
Wayne was a servant-leader who humbly followed a life-long motto of “leave it better than you found it.”
Services will be postponed until a final resting place is identified.

Words by themselves seem so tough at a time such as this. It is so difficult to truly express the sadness I feel learning of your tragic loss. It was with shock and sadness that we learned of Wayne’s passing. He was such a good friend to countless people. The cyclists that he rode with knew him as a strong, never quit rider, someone who was always willing to help and offer advice. He could ride slow or fast and climbed hills with grit and determination. He shared his love of cycling by fixing bikes for kids, teaching new riders the skills they needed and leading groups on rides. More than anything he was a friend, willing to lend a hand and always with a big smile. He will be missed, so farewell our friend until we meet again.

Lost a great man, I will always remember Wayne as being all in. I signed up for a ride through cascade bicycle club in Ocean shores where I live. And where Wayne and Cindy had a house. Wayne was the team leader for the event and I was the only one who signed up. Wayne could have easily canceled but he didn’t. One of the best rides of my life and a bike tuning session after the ride. Will miss the opportunity to spend more time with you Wayne. RIP.

Cindy – I only knew Wayne for a short period. In the time that he and I worked on our project, he made a tremendous impression on me. May you and your family find peace and comfort in the days ahead.

I was crushed to find out about this. People from around the world are lifting Wayne, Cindy, and the entire family up in their prayers today. I fondly look back to the 2017 National Scout Jamboree and 2019 World Scout Jamboree and the time Wayne and I spent after work “solving the world’s problems”. It took about five minutes for me to discover Wayne’s “noble soul” and instantly considered him a friend. He was a true servant-leader. Sail on, Wayne…you will be remembered.

I wish i could thank Wayne one more time for the lasting impact he made on my daughter Khamils life. The countless hours that Coach Wayne put into coaching and supporting the girls will never be forgotten, or his endless knowledge about all the basketball rules and regulations. But it was off the court, on the sidelines or the bus rides that he always shared a few personal words of advice with khamil. One that I know she will always remember was when he told her, ” Your potential is limitless.” Coach Wayne you will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Wayne Agness was simply a great American. An fine soldier and patriot, a dedicated family man, and a trusted friend. He made everyone’s life he touched brighter. He will be missed. Rest easy, Ranger.

Cindy, cannot fully comprehend the sorrow, loss and strength you had to endure over that 12 days. I can speak for many who’s lives were much better for having known, worked with and learned from Wayne. Consumate coach and ref in how he approached work, professional and work relationships. His example, his personal investment in other people-he’s one of those exceptional people that one is blessed to have known, and who’s life is so much better for his being in it. And that legacy, to try to emulate Wayne’s approach to life, will live on through everyone who had the pleasure and honor of his wit, humor and trust. A colleague from a 12 man team I joined up with in 2008 accurately recalled him as the best of us. -Chris

To my good friend, colleague, and mentor Wayne…I relish the times in Alaska where he taught me the proper technique to ride up a hill on a mountain bike after our 60 miles on the pipe line; our many doctrine and tactics discussions, and competition on who had the most air miles at the time. Can’t tell you how much he will be missed by not only me but all he has come in contact with. One of my hero’s. I could go on, but believe “Patton” can close my comments more succinctly: It is foolish and wrong to mourn this man who died. Rather, we should thank God that such a man lived!

I grew up with the honor of having Lt. Colonel Wayne Agness as my mentor. His loss is felt deeply, but I carry his teachings with me as the man I am today.
