Scott Anthony Trout

Scott Anthony Trout passed away on his 67th birthday in Gilbert, Arizona after a hard-fought battle with acute myeloid leukemia, surrounded by family and friends.

Scott was born December 3, 1957 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Ronald and Imogene (Owens) Trout. The family relocated first to California and when Scott was six to Scottsdale, Arizona. Scott attended Coronado High School where he played football and basketball before settling on being a “ring man” for the gymnastics team. He briefly continued his gymnastics career at Arizona State University, but decided instead to focus on academics. Scott earned an undergraduate degree in microbiology, a masters in industrial engineering, and an MBA, all at ASU.

As a lifelong learner, Scott appreciated the challenges and opportunities provided during his 35-year career with Salt River Project. Scott joined SRP in 1987, starting in IT before soon shifting to facility management. In 1995 Scott moved to key account management and then served as director of commercial and residential customer services. Beginning in 2010 Scott directed an initiative to expand SRP’s smart meter infrastructure and then accepted his final position at SRP as director of customer construction services. Scott was proud of his contributions to SRP and appreciated the wonderful people he worked with during his career.

Scott married his first wife Lori Keenan in 1982 and they had two daughters, Brenna and Kasey, who were raised in Gilbert, Arizona. Scott adored his daughters and took great pride in watching them grow into strong self-sufficient women. Scott met Joanne Wamsley in 2009 and they married in 2019. The two embarked on many adventures during their 15 years together.

Scott was rarely without a new hobby or activity. Over the years he became a kitchen “vintner” brewing wine for the enjoyment of friends and family, a “pitmaster” smoking and barbequing delicious meals, a “woodturner”, and a home repairman tackling projects with the help of a YouTube video and a new tool. Scott was also an avid hunter and happiest when planning his next hunt or bagging an elk, deer, or antelope. Scott hunted and camped in Arizona, Wyoming and New Mexico with friends and family throughout his life. Of Scott’s many hunts, he was most proud of “Lefty”, a large elk who had previously lost his right antler in what Scott was sure was an epic battle.

Scott is survived by his wife Joanne Wamsley, daughters Brenna Trout and Kasey Trout, their mother Lori Trout, stepdaughters Amy Wamsley and Kathryn Wamsley, and brother Trent Trout. Scott was preceded in death by his parents Ron and Imogene Trout, stepmother Nancy Trout, and brother Christopher Trout.

Scott was a loving husband, father, and friend and will be remembered as a renaissance man who was continually reaching, learning, and enjoying life. A Celebration of Life is scheduled January 23 from 3 to 5 at the SRP PERA club. In lieu of flowers, please donate to NMDP, the National Marrow Donor Program.
