About Patricia Ann Burkett

Patricia Ann Schutt was born in Des Moines, IA on December 6th 1937 to parents Ralph Schutt & Margaret (LeMare) Schutt.

Patti, as we like to call her, attended East High School in Des Moines, IA & graduated in 1955. After graduation she stayed in Des Moines & went to work at Woolworths as a Soda Jerk. In February 1960 she took a job at Bankers Trust Co. as a check sorter, where she met her husband Clarence (aka Clem, CW) Burkett.

They were married in Des Moines on April 2, 1960 & had three sons; Kevin E. (Julie) McKinney of Storm Lake, IA; Franklin J. Burkett (RIP); Jeffrey S. (Becky) Burkett of Apache Junction, AZ; & a daughter Jo A. (Rick) Johnson of Winnebago, MN.

She had eight grandchildren: Michael (Katie Currie) McKinney; Matthew (Tracy) McKinney; Heidi (Andrew) Conyers; Sadie (Dylan) Robbins; Sarah Burkett; Shana Burkett; Kevin Johnson (RIP); & Kateri (Dillon) Johanson. 13 great grandchildren: Carter Currie; Bryce & Blake McKinney; Graham, Mara & Dominic Conyers, Finlee, Faith, Jayden, Jaxson Robbins; Jethro, Gideon & Ellie Mae Johanson. Nieces & Nephews; Kathi, Mickie, Tim, Diana, Kim, Pam, Dan, Mike, Cris, & Tom.

She was preceded in death by parents Ralph & Margaret; sisters Barbara & Virginia (Ginny); son Franklin (Feb. 1961-July 1961) & grandson Kevin Johnson (Nov. 1984-April 2017).

The family moved from the Des Moines area to Sac City, IA in 1968 where Patti kept busy raising her family & helping to raise three of her nieces. When the children were older she went to work at O’Conner Electric as a bookkeeper & later as a waitress at a local cafe. In 1979 the family moved to Gowrie, IA where she spent time raising her two younger children. She headed a bean walking & corn detasseling crew, also working along side of them. The family moved to Winnebago, MN in 1981 where she worked at Parker Oaks nursing home in laundry department, Electro Craft making motors which ran medical equipment, Was a founder-officer-supervisor & worker at Stop-Gap (a temporary employment company) where she did repackaging work & her last job was housekeeping for the elderly.

In 2004, after Clem’s retirement, they became snowbirds in Apache Junction, AZ & moved there permanently in 2015 where she resided until her death on February 1st, 2022.

Over the years Patti enjoyed bowling, golfing, board darts, flea marketing, garage sales, antiquing, craft shows, playing cards, cribbage & board games, attending car shows with her husband, planning, hosting & attending countless parties with family & friends. She really loved “Thirsty Thursdays” & “Margaritas” with the girls!!!

Patti was honest & loyal, had A BIG HEART OF GOLD with a bright cheerful disposition & a tremendous amount of love. HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS WERE HER LIFE!!!

Mom, this past week has been hard on me. I’m trying to be strong, but every day I have moments of tears. I will get better with time, but for now I’m heart broken. I was too sick to come and be with you outside of that first day. Just know that I so badly wanted to be there and in my mind I was with you. I love you mom, I’m going to miss you so very much. Your laugh when I’d say something stupid or joking and no matter what I’d say, you’d laugh and smile making me feel good inside. You were a great mom and I was so lucky to have had you as my Mom. Dad did a great job taking care of you to keep you with us as long as he could, thank you Dad. Tomorrow we all come to see you and I know it will be one of the hardest things for me to do. I know for awhile you were having a hard time and would get upset, but I understand and you no longer have be in pain. I go over to see Dad and look around wanting you to come around the corner. As I said before I will be ok with time. You’ll always be with me Mom. I love you, your son, Jeff

Remembering one special mother and mother-in-law. She was always there for us,our kids and grandkids. Especially memorable were the many card games we played with her and fooled her into drinking more margarita than she probably should have. She was quite the cook which was evident at our Christmas get togethers. We have many memories of our dear Patti which are too numerous to mention here. You will always be in our hearts. RIP Kevin & Julie

Wow what a lady. I lost track a long time ago how much fun we had with this couple when they lived in Winnebago. The countless parties at the Flamingo Cafe, the car and jukebox shows we attended together were epic. Patti was always my mentor with jukebox repairs and was constantly checking my work on their jukes in their basement. Shooting darts, collecting kick ass bottlecaps and her collection of Elvis Rubberneckin’ 45’s were three of her favorites things that I remember fondly. RIP my friend-we will miss you. Till we meet again.
