Obituary
Manuela Rosario Alvarez, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, February 5, 2021. She was born to Antonio and Gabriela Martinez in Torrance, CA on December 1, 1943. She grew up in the “La Rana” neighborhood in Torrance, CA and graduated from Torrance High School in 1962. Manuela married her friend and love, Manuel Alvarez in May 1967 and spent the next 53 years raising and celebrating their family.
Manuela was generous and welcoming and loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She was known for her open door and kitchen, providing many visitors with homemade tortillas, tamales, and pizza on more than one occasion. She loved the feel of home and decorated with her collections of mugs from the many travels of family and friends, pictures, porcelain dolls, and her favorite frogs.
Manuela dedicated herself to hard work both in and out of her home and was always one to lend a helping hand. She worked for many years at Honeywell as a saughterer and inspector and was awarded many certificates for being a valued team member and her efficient work ethic. After work, she was devoted to her family and their various activities.
Manuela was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Gabriela Martinez, mother-in- law Lupe Flores, brothers Manuel, Mike, Paul, and Tony Martinez, sister in laws Lencha Martinez, Linda Martinez, and Rachel Acosta. She is survived by her husband Manuel, children Gabriel (Zoe’) Alvarez, Elicia (Bill) Gutierrez, Raquel (Edward) Hernandez, and Lupe (Carlos) Becerra, grandchildren Victoria, Joelina, Gabriela, Vincent, Joseph, Elisa, Andrew, Nathaniel, Antonio, Jeremiah, and Natalie, great grandchildren Elena and Ace, her siblings Loli Zuniga, Luis Martinez, Sara (Joe) Rocha, and Stella (Arturo) Contreras, and many nieces and nephews.
Manuel Alvarez asks for you to please join us in celebrating Manuela’s life on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 10:00am at Gilbert Memorial Park, 2100 East Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, AZ 85297. Reception will follow immediately after.
