A Life Remembered

Obituary

Linda Sue Beckman, born Linda Sue Briery on January 2, 1948, in Topeka, Kan., died recently of complications of Guillain Barré Syndrome in Arizona.

Linda valued her Kansas background, whether it be from her parents Charles and L. Josephine Briery, or her education, including Topeka High and the University of Kansas. She wore her roots proudly, never forgetting her family, friends and former neighbors. For it was there she began her life-long pursuit of dance, song, tennis, service, and joy of life.

Receiving an advanced degree from the K.U. Medical Center, she chose a career of pediatric physical therapy, bringing joy and hope to children of her adopted state of Arizona. She began her career at the Tucson Medical Center and Mesa Public Schools, which led to decades of private practice in pediatric physical therapy.

A resident of Mesa for more than 50 years, Linda always stepped up to volunteer for community service. Among many organizations, she served as president of Tri-City Civitan, the local Parent Teacher Organization, and Unstrung Racquets.

As a consummate fighter for what she believed could be, Linda battled valiantly to overcome GBS – never complaining or giving up. Passing on July 2nd, 2026, Linda leaves a son and granddaughter, Brendon and Harleigh Beckman of Apache Junction, a brother, David C. Briery, of San Gabriel, Calif., and numerous cousins across the U.S.

Friends and family will celebrate Linda’s life at Together at the Landing in Mesa on August 9th at noon MST/PDT. Please see Linda’s Facebook page for information on attending the celebration in person or by Zoom.
