Obituary

Katherine Helen (Kaniuk) Bewley, 58, died peacefully in her home in Gilbert, Arizona on May 24, 2020, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Kathy fought a successful and inspirational fight against cancer for 14 years before she was called home. Kathy was a woman of strong faith, who loved to laugh and enjoyed traveling and playing with her grandchildren, despite her health struggles. She delighted in her craft work in her later years, becoming prolific with paintings, coloring, and diamond dots. Kathy is now reunited with her husband of 33 years, David Bewley, and her parents Stanley and Joan Kaniuk, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Jeff Bewley (Dana) of Ashburn, VA and Isabelle, Elijah, Amelia, and Benjamin. Amber Ruiz (David) of Mesa, AZ and Josiah, Adrian, Christian, and Sebastian. Abbey Bewley and her partner Kamel Bell of Tempe, AZ, and Anissa Bewley of Gilbert, AZ all of whom thought she was “really top drawer”. A virtual memorial service is planned for May 31st, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Childrens fund.

Our little sister was loved and cared for by her brothers from the time she was born. She did not have an easy life, losing our father while she was in elementary school, then our mother four years later while she was still in high school. Yet she did not complain. Even during the course of her long illness, she lived life with a smile, loving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and savoring the gifts God provided…her husband, children and grandchildren. We were close, not in terms of physical distance, but in heart and soul. I miss her. I will remember her smile, her laugh and her positive attitude in the face of so many difficult circumstances, ….all that made Kathy all that she was and will remain in our memories. I am happy for her that she is now without pain, absent from the body that was ill for so long, and happier than she ever was or could be here, being now present with our Lord. And so with confidence in the promise of our Savior to all who repent and believe on Him alone for forgiveness and eternal life, I won’t say good bye, Sis, but “see you later.”

I only met Kathy once, by “chance”, at a restaurant. She shared her health struggle with me. She fought a long, hard battle, with dignity. Although she is gone from this world, I KNOW she is waiting in Heaven for her family. THAT alone brings me peace in her passing. My prayers will now continue for all those who are missing her.

I went to high school at Calumet Baptist with Kathy and remember her kind and quiet manner. I went to Bob Jones with her brother, Dave, and was happy to discover the connection to Kathy. I am so sorry for your loss. I pray that God will draw you each close to Himself and comfort you with a comfort only He can give. Kathy fought her fight well in this broken world. God has given her as an example for us and I trust He will help us each to finish well.
