About Jerry Clayton Nickle
Jerry Clayton Nickle, age 81, passed away quickly and peacefully in his home on July 22, 2024. He had been suffering from congestive heart failure and other health ailments for several years. His last days were spent surrounded by loving family.
Jerry was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 9, 1942, to parents Clayton Jackson Nickle and Luzernia Jackson . He was the fourth child of five children: Mignon, Fontella, Jack, Jerry, and Monty, all of his siblings preceded in him death. He spent his childhood living in various areas in Utah as well as a brief time in rural Missouri near the city Springfield. He graduated from Jordan High School in Utah in 1960. He met his wife of sixty years, Judy Baer, in 1962 through a mutual friend; they married on October 17, 1963, in Salt Lake City.
In 1965 Jerry and Judy moved to Phoenix, Arizona, for a job opportunity at Motorola. He left Motorola to start his own construction and paving business, Nickle Contracting, in 1967. He and Judy started a family with the birth of daughter Michelle in 1970 (deceased as of August 2023), Brenda in 1971, Ryan in 1973, Brent in 1977, and Joel in 1978. Jerry is survived by his wife, four of his kids, and his thirteen grandkids who were the joy of his life.
Jerry raised his children in Phoenix, Arizona, until moving to Gilbert, Arizona, in 1993. In addition to running his construction business, he was a history and genealogy enthusiast with particular interest in western outlaw history. He was known for his irreverent sense of humor and ability to tell stories.
Jerry’s viewing will be on Saturday, August 3 rd , at 10:00 am and funeral services at 11:00 am at Gilbert Memorial Park Cemetery and Funeral Home, 2100 E. Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, Arizona 85296.
