About James David Roehl

James David Roehl entered into eternal rest on September 18th, 2021 at the age of 84. His loving wife Barbara preceded him in death in 2020. James’ legacy lives on through his three sons Gordon, Kevin, and Dennis; five grandchildren, Jack, Asher, Sofia, Evangeline, Charli; his sister Marilyn, and his numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom survive him.

James was born on October 11th, 1936 in Pontiac, Michigan to William Walter Roehl and Gladys Louise Roehl. James was an identical twin. His brother Joe passed away in 2010.

In 1954 he quit 11th grade to join the Navy where he got his GED. As a yeoman in the Navy, James served his country with honor.

James met his wife Barbara on July 4th, 1963 at a church picnic in Fenton, Michigan. They were married five months later on November 23rd, 1963, and were married for 56 years.

He enjoyed coaching and umpiring softball, football, and basketball. He was a very skilled chess player, loved to spend time with his grandchildren, travel, and was an avid reader. He loved worshipping the Lord and fellowship with his family and brothers and sisters in Christ. James was a very sweet and gentle soul, generous in all ways, and a very faithful prayer warrior. James lit up a room when he entered. He was truly a Godly man who throughout his entire life, had an unwavering faith in Christ, which he shared with his children, grandchildren, and all those around him.

Devoted Christian, committed husband, loving father, and loyal friend who loved life and the Sovereign Giver thereof.

The visitation is Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Gilbert Memorial Park. Burial is Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 1 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. The Memorial Service is Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 AM at the Reformation Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 11556 East University Drive Apache Junction, AZ 85120. Refreshments will follow the service.

Thank you so much Nicole for making it possible to view Uncle Jimmy’s memorial in Michigan. What a beautiful service for a wonderful man. He would be happy today his U of m wolverines football team beat Wisconsin Badgers. He will be missed he was one of a kind. To his wonderful family I love u all and am praying for you

Sweet Jesus, how hard that must have been to you to see your sweet Dad like that. Made me emotional just seeing the pictures. I know he is in heaven now for sure. Wow, my sweet Uncle Jim. Thank you so much buddy for sending these to me. Hold your sweetheart Nicole and let as much of your grieve go my boy. Gives us more room to remember the great memories and your dad’s/Uncle Jim’s sweet adorable stubborn ways. I’ll never forgive myself for not coming out when you invited me. I should have rescheduled the surgery. I should have just ate the pain to be with you all. I have been remembering the great back and forth with Uncle Joe and your dad and the great times playing ping pong. Never getting through 1 game without needing a referee’s in the basement. Mike and I will miss you Jimmy. We know where you are now. No one was a more devout Christian than you. I was always in awe of your knowledge of the Bible and your ability to quote verses. Uncle Jimmy was my favorite uncle. I have known him since the 60s. I was ringer bearer in his wedding to aunt Barb. Been on vacations with him. Stay with them and family during summers, holidays, and many family get togethers. He taught how to play chess on a table aunt Barb made for his birthday in 1972. Many memories and I will miss his smiling face and humor. God rest his soul.

Jim and Barbara were my cousins. Barbara on my mother’s side. They visited us years ago in Cleveland, TN. We had such a great visit. Talked to Jim after Barbara passed and he was so kind to me about my cousin passing. I am praying for his sons and their families. Continue walking with the Lord and you will see mom and dad in Heaven????????

My Uncle Jim was always a bright light in the group. He was always smiling and sharing stories of life. Uncle Jim never failed to send birthday and Christmas cards with precious messages of faith in them. They will be forever treasures to me. Rest in the arms Lord dear Uncle and walk with all your loved ones. Peace of the Lord be with my family through this time. Love you all.
