Gwendolyn Madril

Gwendolyn Madril, born Gwendolyn Herndon, passed away on August 19, 2026, surrounded by the people she loved most: her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Gwen was born on December 20, 1961, in Salem, Oregon, to John Clarence Herndon and Alma Odell Gannon Herndon. She was a bright, caring, outgoing soul who could make friends with anyone she met and was always willing to help someone in need.

Gwen lived life on her own joyful terms. She loved to dance and always had a special love for the Oregon Coast. She especially enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo whenever she got the chance. But more than anything, she loved her family. Her husband, children, and grandchildren meant the world to her, and she would do anything for them.

Gwen was incredibly strong. She battled multiple sclerosis for 42 years, facing challenges that most people will never understand. While MS ultimately contributed to her decline, she never let it define who she was. She was stubborn, determined, and a fighter until the very end.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Madril; her children, Rori Madril and fiancé Brian Tran, Jakob Madril and his partner Kailey Hardenburg, and Acelia Madril and her husband James Kim; her grandson, Dodger Kim; her granddaughters, Braelyn Madril, Abigail Madril, and Olivia Madril, along with their mother, Candace Madril; her brother, John E. Herndon and his wife Beth; and her sister, Jeanette Loftis and her husband Jim.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma Herndon, and her sisters, Betty Lou Allen and Freda Lusk.

Those who knew Gwen will remember her for her feisty personality, her kindness, her strength, and the way she could strike up a conversation with anyone, whether it be a stranger or a friend. She also had the best laugh—the kind you couldn’t help but smile when you heard it. Most of all, her family will remember how deeply she loved them.

Gwen fought hard, she loved her family with everything she had, and she lived her life exactly the way she wanted to. She will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be held Ocotober 2, 2026 at 11:00AM at Gilbert Memorial Park, 2100 E. Queen Creek Rd., Gilbert, AZ 85297.
