Obituary
Gary L. Maier passed away after a short illness in Gilbert, Arizona on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. He was born March 8,1940 to Herbert and Amelia (Sukut) in Circle, Montana. Gary was raised and attended school in Circle before entering the military. Gary enlisted in the Navy and served his country for four years.
Gary met his beloved wife, Shirley Parks while working in banking in Eugene,OR. They married on September 7, 1979, and spent the next 46 years enjoying life in the Eugene, OR and Phoenix, AZ communities. Gary and Shirley also enjoyed traveling, and have visited many regions of the country, as well as an extended adventure in Europe. Gary worked in finance and banking during his lifetime. After retiring from his financial career, Gary enjoyed working part-time for Adessa, transporting vehicles in the Phoenix area.
Gary also loved music, especially big band music. He played the trumpet and was a member of the Sun Lakes Big Band. Gary was an avid sports fan, and especially cheered on the Oregon Ducks! In his free time, Gary enjoyed golfing many area courses.
Gary is survived by his wife Shirley of Gilbert, AZ, his sister Trudy (Harvey) Kirkegaard of Billings, MT, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, and his brothers Alvin Maier and Harvey Maier.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends.
