Obituary

Emma Elaine Sixtos was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 6, 2019. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Emma, commonly known as Elaine, was born in Whitecloud, Michigan to Steven and Bernice Bartylla on August 28, 1946. She graduated at 16 years old and continued her education to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, and ultimately a Registered Nurse. She met her first husband, William DeWaard, and had two children, Adriana and Joel. During this time she gained many different experiences in Nursing. Years later she met her second husband, Ausencio Sixtos, and had one daughter, Amie. She resided in Battle Creek, Michigan until moving to Mesa, Arizona almost 10 years ago, after her retirement.

Elaine loved God and her family more than anything. She was a very loving, caring, and funny woman who loved to do crafts, cook, sew, knit, crochet, read, watch movies, and sing. She had a feistiness about her, but also a loving and doting spirit. Her kindness, humor, and contagious laughter will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Her legacy will continue through her children, Adriana (Jeffrey) Gleason, Joel (Jennifer) DeWaard, and Amie (Joshua) Chantrenne; her grandchildren, Levi, Lauren, AnnaLeah, Elliana, Elisha, Lilah, Kylie, Ariana, and Aliyah; her great-grandchildren, Lillian, Dahlia, Jaxson, Zayden, and Aniyah.

I am going to share this since we did not have a formal funeral. I pray for God’s comfort to blanket the family who relied on Mom. We will miss her and no words can describe that feeling. One of the best memories was this spring. I worked in Tucson they were scheduled to visit me on a Saturday. However, I worked 2nd shift and all of third shift that night because I was called in. I told Amie that morning that I had only half hour of sleep from 7:45 am-8:15. She inform me they are still coming at 8:15 am. “Still coming?” I was like what? Boy was I surprised. She brought Mom. We went to an authentic Mexican restaurant, then to Saguaro National Park East. The cool thing was we could drive through it. Mom’s leg had been amputated for a couple of years so she had a difficulty going places. Not this time. She could sit back and relax. No she did not sit back and relax. Amie stepped on it. She took the curves pretty fast. Mom was yelling and making the most funny expressions the whole ride. It was in fact the best moment I remember with her. Thanks for the memories Mom and you made us proud to say we had a great Mom. And by the way. I rejoice that I could spend the last two Mother’s Days with you!!! Missing her like crazy noe! Love your son.
