Douglas Lee Cottingham

Douglas Lee Cottingham was born on August 3, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Kenneth Cottingham and Leila Maxine Swanson Cottingham. As a child, he moved with his family to Ralston, Nebraska, where he grew up and graduated from Ralston High School with the class of 1966.

Doug passed away on July 23, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona.

Doug led a very active life, working in several areas of the Healthcare Industry. Doug was an avid sports fan and a great athlete. His former coach, Bob Mackey of Ralston, said, "He was one of the most popular student athletes in Ralston Rams High School history."

Doug, a member of the class of 1966, was a key member of the 1964 state championship basketball team and the first baseman on the 1966 Ram baseball champions. He continued his education at Hastings College, where he also made his mark as a member of the basketball team.

Doug was a devoted Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan, attending many games over the years and never missing one on television. He loved watching all sports and participating whenever he could, and he remained passionate about athletics throughout his life.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Cottingham and Leila Maxine Swanson Cottingham, and by his wife, Barb Cottingham.

He leaves behind many cherished friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, loyalty, and enduring friendship. He was surrounded by dear friends who became his family and who will miss him deeply.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared when they become available.
