About Denise Lousie Sunshine née Nixon

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Denise Lousie Sunshine née Nixon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on August 22, 2025, held in the love of her family, after facing cancer with extraordinary courage, grace, and dignity.

Born on May 29 th, 1964, at Otis Air Force Base, Barnstable Massachusetts, Denise dedicated her life to the care and healing of others as an oncology nurse. With deep compassion and tireless devotion, she stood alongside patients and families during their most difficult times, offering both medical skill and human comfort. Though the disease she once fought against in service to others took her too soon, her spirit remains unbroken, and her legacy endures.

Denise’s life was filled with love, laughter, and joy. She embraced the simple pleasures, a glass of Chardonnay on ice, relaxing at home with a good movie, and treasuring time with family and friends. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, a day she delighted in hosting, bringing loved ones together around her table with warmth, laughter, and gratitude. She will be remembered for her fierce strength, generous heart, and the way she always put others before herself.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Eli; her sons Travis (37) and Logan (21); her parents George Sr. and Patrica Nixon; and her brothers Brian and George Jr.

They, along with extended family and friends, will forever hold her memory close.

A memorial service to honor Denise’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 27, at 8:00 a.m. at Gilbert Memorial Park, 2100 East Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, Arizona. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, remember, and celebrate the extraordinary life she lived.

Denise’s family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, and loved ones who supported her throughout her journey. In her honor, we encourage all to live with the same compassion, courage, and love she gave so freely. In lieu of flowers, we ask family and friends to consider donating to https://www.pinkribbongood.org . Pink Ribbon Good exists to serve every person and family affected by breast and gynecological cancer. They provide free healthy meals, rides to treatment, housecleaning essentials and peer support so no one is alone in the fight.
