About David Troy Owens

David Troy Owens was born in Boulder City, Nevada, on March 13, 1967, to David LaGene and Hazel Kaye Owens. They moved to Arizona when David was 2.5 years old. He grew up in Mesa and attended Mountain View High School. He had a passion for basketball and guns, which he passed on to his children.

David married his wife, Tatum Ann Howey, on May 29,1997, and together they blended their three children and went on to have four more children of their own. David spent his life working to build his business and taking care of his family.

He took great pride in raising his seven children with his wife, Tatum, who he adored. His favorite past times included watching his kids compete in sports, taking his guns shooting, and spoiling Tatum. He also enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren.

David was larger than life and lit up every room he walked into. He was always happy and the hardest worker. He knew how to fix everyone’s problems and was always the “go to”. David showed his love for those in his life through his actions. He made sure everyone was taken care of and never went without.

David was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served his mission in Hong Kong. He was still very fluent in Cantonese and loved any opportunity to speak it.

He passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021, due to undiagnosed leukemia. He fought hard and strong to the very end. His unexpected passing will leave a hole in the hearts of all who knew him, but most especially his sweet wife and children.

David was preceded in death by his father, David LaGene Owens, and his brother, Shaun Cameron Owens. He is survived by his wife, Tatum, and his seven children:

Britni and Taylor Ipsen; Adelaide

Spencer and Jenna Owens; Troy

Scotlin

Lawsen

Carsen

Kollin

Riggden

and his mother, Hazel Kaye Owens, and his sister, Stephanie Cloward.

The visitation will be Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 6-8 PM at Gilbert Memorial Park, 2100 E. Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, AZ 85297. The funeral service will be Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11 AM, preceded by a visitation at 10 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pecos Park Ward, 2958 S. Recker Road, Gilbert, AZ 85296. Interment will follow at Gilbert Memorial Park.

I am extremely sadden to hear of David’s passing. He was my boss when I worked at KHOV homes. He was a great man, who would light up when he spoke of his beautiful wife Tatum and his beautiful children. My sincere condolences to his wife, his children and the rest of his family. God bless.

My heart goes out to the Owens family. I met David through work as his company performed IT work for us. His big smile was only over shadowed by his huge heart. He would often ask about the youth program I volunteered with at Mesa PD. Always willing to jump in and help when needed. He provided an iPad to a young man who had dyslexia so the young man might be able to learn better. He provided laptops to the program so we would be able to assist with school work. He donated funds to help a single mother of six not get evicted. These are just a few of the many things that David did to help others. Thoughts and prayers to your family. May you find peace in knowing that your Dad made this world a better place.

What a shock it was to hear of Troy’s passing. I have so many wonderful memories of spending summers with cousins in Panguitch. I’ll also never forget the summer that my mom and Aunt Caroline took Steve and I on a trip to Arizona to visit. Troy loved to pull pranks, and when we were at this roller rink roller skating, he somehow talked me into opening the door to the emergency exit. Loud alarms went off and lights flashed and a security guard came over and chewed me out. It was pretty scary at the time, but we had a lot of laughs about it over the years. I remember how Troy could get us all laughing about one thing or another. My heart aches for your whole family Aunt Kaye. I hope that with time you will each have peace and comfort from this difficult loss.

I’m so saddened to hear of Troy’s passing. My heart is full of compassion for his sweet wife, his mom, his sister and especially his children. As youth, Troy, John and I spent time together in Panguitch getting into trouble but having fun, always fun. Grandpa Owens was constantly reprimanding us for stealing vegetables from his garden. And going to the dump and breaking any glass we could find was an adventure. Troy, even though it’s been a while since I saw you last, I will never forget your infectious laugh. What a joyous reunion it must have been with you, your dad and Shaun. Till we meet again, I love you man.

It was with great sadness that I read Troy’s obituary.. I am so very sorry for your loss. Kay, the thought of losing won son is unbearable. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to lose two. It was such a pleasure teaching all three of your children in fifth grade at Hawthorne, Kay. You and David were such supportive, loving, caring parents. There are no words to express my care and concern for you and your family. Jo Walker

I am so stunned to hear this news. David and Tatum were true friends that were by my side thru one of the most difficult times of my life and one of the only reasons I made it thru it. I will always be so grateful for their love, friendship and support. For many years Friday night dates were always with them…every Friday night. As life changed for us I’m sad to say we didn’t see each other much and over time lost touch but they have always been in my thoughts and prayers. Some of my favorite times were with them. David will truly be missed by many. Love and prayers to the family.

Dear Kaye my heart breaks for you. Marijane and I will come visit you when it is convenient. It just does not seem that things are right when a child departs the earth before their mother. I am praying that you will find comfort and peace in the memory of a absolutely wonderful son. I am sending my love, Willie

He lived, larger than life! He loved, everyone. He listened, closely. When I called, he came. I know I’m not the only one who knew this, but I am better for having had him in my life. He was good to me. I’ll miss him.
