Clinton Joy Chapman
1938 — 2026
A Life Remembered
Obituary
Clinton Joy Chapman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, in Chandler, Arizona. He was born on May 13, 1938, in Silver City, New Mexico, to Joy Marvin Chapman and Clara Olive Woolsey.
Clinton married the love of his life, Mary Sharilyn (Sharilyn) Chapman, on June 23, 1961. Together they shared 63 years of marriage until her passing in 2024. Their devotion to one another and their shared love of family and the gospel were the foundation of a life well lived.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Clinton served a two-and-a-half-year mission in Uruguay and Paraguay, South America. His deep faith in Jesus Christ guided his life and was reflected in his many years of church service, including serving in bishoprics and working with youth through the Boy Scouts. He and Sharilyn enjoyed serving together and treasured the friendships, activities, dinners, and sporting events that came through their church involvement.
Clinton served two years of active duty in the United States Army, followed by four years in the reserves. He was recognized for the outstanding manner in which he performed his duties and the high principles he consistently maintained.
He had an incredible work ethic, spending 22 years with Western Savings, where he earned several promotions. He later pursued his love of woodworking and cabinetry, continuing to work after retirement alongside his brother-in-law installing computer furniture.
Clinton loved the outdoors and found joy in camping, hunting, fishing, and sharing those experiences with his family. He was a dedicated Scout leader, a talented woodworker who enjoyed building furniture, and an exceptional dancer, especially when it came to the jitterbug! In his later years, he enjoyed puzzles, diamond art, and needlepoint.
Above all, Clinton cherished his family. He was a loving and supportive husband and devoted father who taught his children to appreciate nature, work hard, be kind, and serve the Lord. A quiet man, he taught more through example than words. His unwavering patience, kindness, loyalty to God and family, and remarkable endurance through life's trials reflected a profound faith in Jesus Christ. No matter what life brought his way, he held firmly to that faith.
Clinton is survived by his six children: Dale Chapman (Dawn), Brian Chapman (Elila), Cathe Davis (Cameron), Julie Chapman (Darrin), Carla Chapman, and Wade Chapman (Tracy); 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharilyn; his parents, Joy and Clara; and his grandson, Alejandro Gonzalez, who passed away in 2025.
