A Life Remembered
Obituary
Bobby was born on June 5th, 1943 in Clarksville, Tennessee to parents Ora and Jesse McCormick. He later moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where he spent the majority of his childhood as the second eldest of four. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School and joined the United States Air Force soon after in February of 1962. He served honorably for over seven years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bobby was married to his sweetheart Shirley McCormick on June 16th of 1963. He often described their relationship as “love at first sight,” and the pair went on to have four children together. He spent most of his life enjoying the company of his family in Kansas, following which he moved to Arizona in his retirement to be near his youngest daughter, Jennifer. In his free time, Bobby enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He could always be found with a bag of Rold Gold pretzels or an RC Cola, and he never passed up the opportunity for a Moon Pie. Bobby will be remembered for his selflessness, sense of humor, and genuine love for life. He cherished his family and loved his country. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Bobby is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Shirley; their four children, Pamela, Ellen, Raymond, and Jennifer; his brothers, Randall and Ray; his sister, Wanda Gay; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will take place at a small gathering with family and close friends, following which Bobby’s ashes will be interred in Marshall, Missouri. Additionally, a small amount of his ashes will be scattered at Poplar Creek in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where he spent many happy hours as a boy fishing and swimming with his siblings and friends.
