Audrey North Dolezal

Audrey North Dolezal passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley in Gilbert, Arizona, following complications from a fall, on September 15, 2026. She was born on September 14, 1928, in Sydney, Australia, to Margaret Finlayson and Horace Hector McDonald.

Audrey was an exceptional storyteller and was one of those people that anyone joining her table would want to sit next to. Remembered for her bubbly personality and quick wit, she was truly a joy to all who knew her. She had a brilliant mind and was an avid reader who spent countless happy hours piecing together complex jigsaw puzzles and solving crosswords. Audrey made new friends wherever life took her, and many of her friendships lasted for decades.

For over 15 years, she successfully owned and ran Monash Books, an import/export business that supplied books from Australia to colleges and universities across the United States. Following this, she spent a decade working at Mesa Community College.

She also loved music and could sing a song to fit every occasion. The greatest joy in her retirement years, aside from her family, was the time she spent – over 25 years - volunteering at the Chandler Center for the Arts. A seat in the theater has been designated in her honor.

Audrey is survived by her daughter, Dana Dolezal Filley, and her husband, Richard; her son, Mitch Dolezal, and his wife, Kris; as well as her sister, Davida Jenns. She also leaves behind three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, who brought her the immense joy of 12 great-grandchildren, as well as her nieces, nephew, and their families remaining in Australia.

A Celebration of Life will immediately follow in the adjoining reception room from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A light lunch and refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chandler Center for the Arts in memory of Audrey.
